One of the most difficult professions is writing! Writing can be rewarding as well as fun and enjoyable. But for most it is a sad affair where the writer barely makes enough to live comfortably! Sadly many writers give up writing never getting to enjoy the wonders of a popular Author and fade into obscurity!
We read about or see shows and movies about Authors like Mary Shelley. Or maybe you grewvup with, The Waltons. Both deal with it the lives of famous people who grew up as much unassuming and unlikely Authors who would one day become famous. Authors who would shape society in many but important ways.
Writing is fun; most people write just to pass the time or for the hell of it never intending to publish or earn a living off their writing. But some would Publish their Works and for some they would become famous and popular Authors. While others would stop at writing at one or two books giving up on writing out of Despair due to poor sales. Who knows just what these writers would have accomplished if they made more sales and continued writing.
What would have happened if Mary Shelley would have given up on writing Frankenstein? Why; the Genre of Science Fiction would not exist and writers like Jules Verne and H.G. Wells would never have risen to Glory inspired by the great Mary Shelley and her Unassuming Novek, Frankenstein!
Life as we know it would have been profoundly altered by the loss of this great writer. Who knows maybe Star Trek would not exist if Mary Shelley would have given up on her dreams of becoming a writer.Have you ever thought of the consequences of the nonexistence of that one novel?
We can never begin to contemplate how History would have been profoundly altered if Frankenstein was never written! Such a thing is just too farfetched to even consider.
By now you are asking yourself , “What can we do and how does this affect me?”
Well one thing you can do is to purchase an Author’s novel and show them that you care and you want to support them! Authors would appreciate the act of purchasing their Novels even if you never read the Novel.
Who knows, maybe you will even like the Novel. One thing that could be done I found on Facebook. In Norway the Government has a program and Purchases 1,000 Copies of an Authorsr Novels to show that not only do they support the Gift of Writing but to help the Author and show that they care.
This type of Program would be beneficial in America. If each State would Purchase 1,000 Copies of an Author’s Works. This would ensure that an Author has a support structure that they need to continue writing and teach them to never give up on following their dreams of becoming a successful Author.
I know what it means to be an Author and not make a living off my writing. I enjoy writing and I do not know what I would do with all the ideas in my head.I know there are people out there who are thinking the same thing.
What if I just give up on Writing?
I do not even want to think about such a thing. I know what it is like not having a Publisher. And I know what it is like not being able to afford to publish my Works. And I know what it is like not to make much money off my writing so I know just how you feel.
Never give up on your Writing. Never give up on your dreams. You can make a difference!
It would be wonderful if each State came up with a program I call The 1,000 Copy Initiative to help Local Authors and show them that the Government cares about the Arts.
This Initiative will not only benefit Authors but Society as well! Copies that are purchased will be donated to Libraries throughout the State and across the Country as each State Institutes The 1,000 Copy Initiative.
Authors would have an incentive to continue Writing and that little extra income Authors receive from the Works for hey produce will inspire more Authors to follow their dreams and produce Works that will last Generations!
