Freedom of Speech

An Essay by

J. C. Jenkins Jr

In America; one of the first things we learn about is, The Freedom of Speech; but we never learn nor do we know how hard it was for people in the past who did not have this Fundamental Right we all take for granted.

Today we have the Internet and Social Media Platforms to speak our minds and say whatever we want without fear of the consequences; not knowing who might be offended or hurt by such speech.

Some people write stories, both Fictional and Real-Life Stories. Stories that inspire and other stories that incite people to anger and violence. Not everyone takes care of what it is that they say or whom it might hurt. We just don’t give a damn; it is our right to say the things we want to say and to hell with what people might think. After all, it’s our right.

What people don’t understand today that in the past, people didn’t have that right. People were, Assaulted, Raped, Imprisoned, Tortured and Murdered for saying the wrong thing to the wrong person. And it was all legal.

Few of us can comprehend being assaulted raped imprisoned or sentenced to death for saying something about the wrong person. All you have to do is study History and read the Classics most notably the Ancient Classics.

So many writers were arrested and sentenced to death for angering the wrong person. Some were even ripped apart by wild animals. You had to be careful what you said in these times. Make it a point to read the Classics and Ancient Classics. Delphi Classics is the best reference of Classical Writers.

Few of us today know what it’s like not to have any freedoms. The freedoms we take for granted for most of us never had to fight for them or defend our very lives from people who wanted us dead for speaking our minds.

School is a safe haven for learning, or should be if not for Social Politics that pit one another against each other by the way they dress, where they grew up or how much money they had.

Politics can be both a good thing and a bad thing. It’s the kind of Politics that we get into that makes us loved or despised. The same thing is true in the distant past; only today it is a crime to assault, rape, torture or kill someone for what they say. That is a Freedom we all enjoy. But not everywhere. There are places in the world where Freedoms are a Myth and Tyranny reigns supreme. People are forced to accept Religious or Political, Dogma as the basis of life. Threats of torture and death and rapes are commonplace.

It is no wonder that some people will fight tooth and nail for their freedoms. In some cases, they succeed and other cases, they fail and die. Freedom is something that is worth fighting for, even if it costs us our very lives. The one thing that no one can own or possess is our Souls.

It is up to us to fight against the Censor and Cancel Culture. If we don’t, we give up the very Freedoms that those that had proceeded us and died so that we can enjoy living the lives we take for granted.

Don’t give up, Readers. If you do, we go back to the past where a Careless Whisper could cost us our very lives. Don’t let the evils of the past come back to destroy everything we worked so hard for; for our children.

Humanity has come so far and we can go so much further if we keep fighting for the Freedoms that our forefathers fought and died for. They did this so that we can be free and spread Freedom across the world and reach all people within our Nations.

There is no telling how far we can go if we fight for the Freedoms of all people; great or small. It is our duty to use our Freedom of Speech to teach others how to live life free from Tyranny.

Sadly. Freedom of Speech is something we take for granted.
